DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Economic professionals came together with local business owners Tuesday to talk about gardening of sorts.

Not vegetables, but gardening Dayton's economy.

Our own Dan Edwards served as emcee at the event at Sinclair Community College.

Citywide organizers say the key to our region's success is nurturing companies who are already here.

"Economic development in this part of the country tends to work better if we grow our own companies, companies that have somewhere between 10 and 100 employees. It works a lot better if we can grow those companies as opposed to trying to track new companies in," said Steve Nutt, Senior VP, Citywide Development.

Local business owners were also paired with national economic strategists who will give them a personalized critique.
