XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) - Some dog owners in Xenia will be required to register their dog with the police department starting January 2, 2012.

It all depends on the breed of dog you own. The city passed an ordinance requiring registration for the following breeds:

- Pit bull
- American pit bull terrier
- Staffordshire bull terrier
- American Staffordshire terrier
- Canary dog
- American bulldog
- Old country bulldog
- Perro de presa canario
- any mixed breed with contains any of the above

The registration fee is $30.00 per dog and you'll need to prove that the dog is registered in Greene County and proof of liability insurance. Failure to register is a fourth degree misdemeanor for a first offense.
